** Day browser: When deleting a single image, move the focus to the next image (instead of the previous)

** Day browser: "Add flag" split button's drop down portion wasn't quite working. Also, now remembers the previous selection and re-uses it if you just press the button part of the split button

If you get a "Conversion from string "0.6" to type 'Double' is not valid" when opening the [[Day Browser]], follow these steps to fix the problem:

This is related to the Day browsers Zoom level! Currently it set to 0.6 but due to regional settings changes (probably), it should be 0,6 (comma instead of a dot).

To fix it, follow the following steps:

Restart TimeSnapper

Go to Help -> About

Right click the TimeSnapper logo and select "Run Command"

Paste in the following line into the dialog box that just opened:

Update options set val = '1' where name = 'DayBrowserZoomLevel'

And click OK.

Now you should be able to open the day browser again!

Let's say you've lost your TimeSnapper database (for whatever reason) but you have all the images in a safe place. However, you are not able to view them since you've password protected them. TimeSnapper uses a very secure way of encrypting the images so that no one can view them unless they have the password.

So when you start TimeSnapper for the first time, it creates a new database. You'll need to import the images into TimeSnapper be let it know where those images are. You do that by:

Tools > Advanced > Import images from older version

When TimeSnapper imports the images, it is unaware that they are encrypted (that information is saved in the database that got lost). So, what you need to do is tell TimeSnapper that these images are encrypted by updating the database. First make sure you:

TimeSnapper maintains all the settings in its database in a table called Options. Normally, you don't have to worry about that table. Sometimes, after some fiddling (e.g. after changing regional settings etc), you may have to update it manually to fix a problem.

A typical problem is when a setting/option is saved as a "0.3" instead of a "0,3" (notice the comma) - or visa versa (depends on your computer setting).

To update a single setting, you can:

* Restart TimeSnapper
* Go to Help -> About
* Right click the TimeSnapper logo and select "Run Command"
* Paste in the following line into the dialog box that just opened:

Update options set val = '1' where name = 'DayBrowserZoomLevel'

* And click OK.
* Restart TimeSnapper again, just in case.

== Does TimeSnapper slow down your computer? ==

For everyday use, [http://timesnapper.com TimeSnapper] should have no noticeable effect on the performance of your machine. It generally uses between 1 and 5 megabytes of memory. In a modern computer this is a small amount of memory.

We use TimeSnapper day in, day out on a variety of computers and find that it has no noticeable effect on the performance of a computer. Try it and see for yourself. If your experience is otherwise, write to us and tell us.

== Is it safe and secure to use TimeSnapper? ==

TimeSnapper does not send any information to the internet. To verify this you could use network traffic inspection software such as Wireshark or Fiddler. All of the information it captures is stored on your local machine.

When uninstalling TimeSnapper it removes the program itself, but it doesn't remove the snapshots or the database that holds information about the snapshots. This is a conscious decision we made out of courtesy to the user. The snapshots are the users property, and the database contains information that the user owns. We don't assume we have permission to delete them. To make an analogy: when a user deletes Microsoft Office, the uninstall process doesn't delete all of the user's documents.

They can easily be removed by the end user, should they wish, by deleting the folder located here:

"%localappdata%\Timesnapper\"

But we leave that as a decision for the end user. If we did that by default, we would be inundated with support requests from unhappy users. People rely on those screenshots. If we deleted them, wow, we would hear about it!

The only time that TimeSnapper contacts the internet is when registering a license. At this point in time it sends the name of the computer and the registration key that the user has entered, which we digitally sign and send back. We can also arrange for offline registration.

Our software is installed in military networks, in airlines and many thousands of other places. We put our names and our faces on the website (http://timesnapper.com/about.aspx) because we are real people, building a real product, that does what it claims and nothing nasty.

== Does it fill up your hard-drive with images? ==

Surprisingly, no. There are four features that stop TimeSnapper from over-using your hard drive.

Firstly, no images are taken when the computer is idle. So if you are away from your computer, or leave it on overnight, no screenshots are taken.

Second, there is an archiving feature, that you can use to specify, "Delete all images older than 14 days" (or as many days as you choose). You can also limit TimeSnapper to use no more than a certain number of mega-bytes of hard drive space. (The archiving options are shown in the image below)

The third feature is that you can configure the resolution of the images, and take smaller, or fuzzier images if you wish. This can have a dramatic reduction on the required hard drive space.

The fourth feature that helps is the amount of time between images. If you have very limited space, you can take screenshots less often. Perhaps only once per minute, or even once every ten minutes. It will still give a fairly useful picture of where all that time went.

== Does it work on multiple monitors? ==

Yes! TimeSnapper can now cater for up to three monitors. You can also configure it to capture only the current application. More details are included in the help page.

== What's the difference between Classic and Professional? ==

TimeSnapper Classic is the free version while you must pay for TimeSnapper Professional. TimeSnapper Professional has a lot more features than the Classic version. [[Compare Classic and Pro]]

== Does it work on Apple computers? ==

We're sorry to report that there is still no Mac version of TimeSnapper. Plans remain in motion. If you are a talented developer, keen to help with this effort, please contact us.

== Can it be used to spy on people? ==

Unfortunately, yes it could. But this is definitely not the intended use of TimeSnapper. We're serious about this. Using TimeSnapper to monitor your employees, children, parents, housemates, customers, ex-girlfriends or colleagues is a very invasive thing to do. We can't stop you from doing it, but we can strongly urge you not to. We ask you to inform and seek consent from anyone whose screenshots you will be viewing.

There are some legitimate cases where people can monitor others. If you are using TimeSnapper to monitor other people we seriously ask that you follow these guidelines. You must have their informed consent. This means that they are aware of the fact that TimeSnapper is running, and monitoring their behaviour. And they agree to allow this to occur.

== How can I tell if someone is using it to spy on me? ==

We deliberately make it very easy to tell if TimeSnapper is running.

The two most obvious signs: the TimeSnapper icon in the system tray, and the program "TimeSnapper.exe" listed amongst running files.

By taking normal security precautions with your computer, you should be safe from spies. Wearing a hat made of aluminium foil can also help.

== How can I protect the files it stores? ==

TimeSnapper Professional comes with a built in privacy protection, by using state of the art encryption methods for encrypting the screenshots. You just provide a password and no one will be able to see the images without the password! This feature is not available in the free version, TimeSnapper Classic

== Can I have the source code? ==

In order to protect the time and effort we've put into this TimeSnapper venture, we do not intend to release the source code. We know it's cruel. There are lots of great resources such as Code Project that can show you how to do the basic things that TimeSnapper does.

== Can TimeSnapper fill out my time-sheet for me? ==

Almost! You can integrate TimeSnapper with any time-sheet application where you can connect to the database via OleDB.

== Why do I get a "Download" dialog when I try to view a report? ==

When you try to show a report, you should see the report -- but some people have reported a problem where they get a 'download' dialog.

For the most part, we've found this is resolved by re-registering the Microsoft library for XML --MSMXL 3.

To do so: Start -> Run -> regsvr32.exe msxml3.dll

== How do I move all settings to a new computer ==
Here are some instructions for those who are moving to a new computer and want to retain their settings, statistics, flags and even screenshots.

Shortcut Dialog

You can use the Shortcut dialog to access most of TimeSnappers frequently used features. By default it can be invoked using the keyboard shortcut [Win]+S (no matter what application you are using at the time, i.e. a global shortcut).

Then you will be presented with this dialog:

Import Encrypted Images

Let's say you've lost your TimeSnapper database (for whatever reason) but you have all the images in a safe place. However, you are not able to view them since you've password protected them. TimeSnapper uses a very secure way of encrypting the images so that no one can view them unless they have the password.

So when you start TimeSnapper for the first time, it creates a new database. You'll need to import the images into TimeSnapper be let it know where those images are. You do that by:

Tools > Advanced > Import images from older version

When TimeSnapper imports the images, it is unaware that they are encrypted (that information is saved in the database that got lost). So, what you need to do is tell TimeSnapper that these images are encrypted by updating the database. First make sure you:

Tools > Options > Privacy > Check the "protect screenshots" checkbox and use the same password as previously

Go to the Menu (this is a hidden feature of TimeSnapper, therefore it may look strange)

Help > About...

Next, right click the big "TimeSnapper" text in the about box and select "Run Command..."

In the dialog that opens, paste in the following (assuming all your pictures are saved with the same password):

update activity set PWDID = (select max(PWDID) from pwd)

Now click "OK". Then TimeSnapper should connect all the existing pictures that you have imported to the password you just entered.

TimeSnapper does not send any information to the internet. To verify this you could use network traffic inspection software such as Wireshark or Fiddler. All of the information it captures is stored on your local machine.

When uninstalling TimeSnapper it removes the program itself, but it doesn't remove the snapshots or the database that holds information about the snapshots. This is a conscious decision we made out of courtesy to the user. The snapshots are the users property, and the database contains information that the user owns. We don't assume we have permission to delete them. To make an analogy: when a user deletes Microsoft Office, the uninstall process doesn't delete all of the user's documents.

They can easily be removed by the end user, should they wish, by deleting the folder located here:

But we leave that as a decision for the end user. If we did that by default, we would be inundated with support requests from unhappy users. People rely on those screenshots. If we deleted them, wow, we would hear about it!

The only time that TimeSnapper contacts the internet is when registering a license. At this point in time it sends the name of the computer and the registration key that the user has entered, which we digitally sign and send back. We can also arrange for offline registration.

Our software is installed in military networks, in airlines and many thousands of other places. We put our names and our faces on the website (http://timesnapper.com/about.aspx) because we are real people, building a real product, that does what it claims and nothing nasty.

== Does it fill up your hard-drive with images? ==

Surprisingly, no. There are four features that stop TimeSnapper from over-using your hard drive.

Firstly, no images are taken when the computer is idle. So if you are away from your computer, or leave it on overnight, no screenshots are taken.

Second, there is an archiving feature, that you can use to specify, "Delete all images older than 14 days" (or as many days as you choose). You can also limit TimeSnapper to use no more than a certain number of mega-bytes of hard drive space. (The archiving options are shown in the image below)

Offline Activation

It is possible to activate TimeSnapper on computers that are not connected to the internet.

In order to do that you must send us the exact name of your computer (Without the domain name. How to find computer name? [http://www.google.se/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=how+to+find+computer+name])

We will send you back a special file: TimeSnapper.lic. This is a license file containing "proof of validation" for the machine name you sent us.

How to use this file to activate TimeSnapper (you only need to do this once):
* Preferable: Make sure you have the latest version of TimeSnapper installed on your computer
* Close TimeSnapper
* Place the attached file in the same folder as the TimeSnapper.exe (normally "C:\Program Files\TimeSnapper")
* Click the Windows "Start" button, and then "Run"
* Paste in the exact following (including quotes):
"C:\Program Files\TimeSnapper\TimeSnapper.exe" /lic
* Click OK

If all goes well, then the application will start without showing the Trial screen. If something goes wrong, TimeSnapper will inform you with an error.

To verify that it has in fact been activated, it is possible to look into TimeSnapper log file (accessible from TimeSnapper > Tools > Advanced > View log). It should say "License activated!".

* New filtering controls in the reports dialog for easier date ranges selections
* Some minor fixes:
* TimeSnapper was unable to capture apps in Vista running with elevated privileges - normally Visual Studio as admin (UAC turned ON)
* Capturing (semi-)transparent windows in a multi-monitor setup didn't always work
* Saved Dialog positions should be ignored if out of bounds
* The bug report dialog now allows empty email address
* Check if the database version is later than the TS client
* Multiple retries for connecting to the database if db-file is locked
* Fixed problem that was continually logged if there was no BookingDefinitions.xml file.
